Path of Exile Item Upgrades
The performance of many Path of Exile items can be improved by upgrading them. They can be a good source of additional damage or more AD or even more attaches.
Rare-grade equipment can be superior to modernized Common or Magic gear due to their higher requirements.
Armor
Armor upgrades can be applied to both armor and weapon items. They improve the stats of the item that they're attached to. Armor upgrades are found in the game's world and can be purchased from Blacksmiths at any bonfire. Alternatively, they can also be salvaged from items with upgrade components inside them, using a specialist or more powerful salvage kit.
The level of an armor's or weapon's upgrade determines the amount of damage it can absorb. The absorption of damage by a piece armor will increase as it is upgraded to the highest upgrade level. It's important to remember that this will increase the weight of the armor, so it must be heavier.
There are a few different kinds of armor upgrades available in the game, and they all have different effects. Some upgrades give armor a greater amount of health points while others make it lighter and more powerful. The type of armor upgrade that an item will receive will be identified by the name of the upgrade as shown in the table below.

The cheapest way to upgrade armor is to use Iron Ore, which can be found through exploring the surroundings and looting chests of minor loot. A piece of armor upgraded to its maximum upgrade level will significantly increase its defense capabilities, but the player should be aware that putting more weight on it can drastically decrease its agility and speed. Therefore, it is not recommended to upgrade armor pieces beyond +9, since the added defense is usually not worth the weight and power cost of the upgrades required.
Weapons
Weapon upgrades allow players to enhance certain aspects of their weapon. For instance, an upgrade may improve the damage that is caused by shotgun shells or the accuracy of the rifle sniper. Certain firearms also have upgrades that improve their innate qualities. Frictionless materials (improves stability, reduces the risk of the possibility of overheating) and Kinetic coils (increases the projectile's acceleration to cause more damage) are two examples.
The majority of upgrades to weapons require three Power Dices, a different amount of Minerals and Erons, and a whetblade to apply. These can be obtained by completing Side Quests, taking out a certain number of monsters or bosses, or by contacting the Weapon Upgrade NPC located in Central Flarine.

Instead, you're better off visiting stores and buying equipment that has low upgrade levels but good base scores and stat distributions. These items will have a higher chance of giving you the highest tier advantages and benefits.
To improve their skills faster, most players will prioritize upgrading their weapons. In addition players, they should think about upgrading the weapons they use with their teammates to increase their power as well. For instance, Shepard should consider upgrading the M92F to unlock the Beretta M93R to increase its utility when accompanied by experts in biotics like Grunt and Tali.
Jewels
Jewels are placed in the armor's sockets and weapons, enhancing the power of a character and bringing about secondary effects. They can be made through the process of jewelry crafting, in which you combine a gem with several ingredients at a table for jewelry. The higher the grade of the jewel, the better its secondary effect. These reagents are available from Treasure Goblins and World Bosses all over the world, or through collecting Legendary Gear. You can also purchase them from The Jeweler for gold and a Scattered Prism.
The Jeweler can boost the quality of a gem in stages ranging from Crude up to Royal. The boosts to stats will differ depending on the level the jewel is in when it's slotted into weapons, jewelry, or equipment.
The Jeweler is able to create all kinds of gems, apart from the rare and legendary ones which require a certain level to get. Jewels can be substituted with another jewel without destroying the original. You can only replace the jewel once in an item of equipment.
It is common to use more jewels to enhance the appearance of. The jewels also improve performance and create an outer layer that is more durable than steel so that repeated friction from pivots does not cause damage to the movement.
In addition to the above upgrades, the player can also obtain glyphs for their shields and weapons from a Glyphmaster. These glyphs offer a small boost and can be exchanged, however they're not guaranteed to be available as loot. Glyphs can be upgraded, as jewelry, by visiting the Jeweler for gold and scattered Crystal. Glyphs can also be taken out and returned to the inventory. Other upgrade components, such as aegis and traits, are not swappable, and can only be recovered using an Upgrade Extractor or salvaging them using the Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool.
Trinkets
Trinkets can be used to provide your hero with various small, but valuable advantages. You can find them in the starter area as loot or as personal story rewards. They are also available from vendors as well as through the completion of road interactions. They can be found on the Trading Post, or crafted by jewelers.
The first trinket that a player will be able to unlock is the cloak. It grants a small but beneficial boost in speed of movement and the ability to escape. The player can then acquire necklaces, amulets, and rings in a similar manner as they did with weapons and armor. Each piece of equipment has one upgrade slot that can accommodate either a universal or jewel upgrade. Universal upgrades are smaller and are able to be used on any piece of equipment. Jewels cannot be upgraded or replaced and are only compatible with certain trinkets.
These trinkets provide additional buffs and abilities that are active when the hero isn't in combat. This lets a hero become more efficient even when not in combat. It also helps compensate for the absence of good slot in the talent tree or team that are normally filled by the hero's best stats.
As a rule trinket upgrades should be prioritized over BiS (Best in Slot) items that you will not replace soon. Also, consider items that have desirable statistics aren't as important as the iLevel of the item that is to be upgraded. This is especially true when an item has multiple stats you wish to upgrade, as it's usually better to upgrade just one important stat rather than two sub-optimal ones.
At the beginning of the game, junglers will usually want to upgrade their trinket into a red one, while top and mid players will usually opt for either a pink or green ward (depending on the game's matchup). These choices can affect a hero's ability to control the map.
In addition to the things mentioned above, players can discover a variety of other trinkets in the game in the form of awards and trophies. These can be earned by completing certain milestones in the story, for instance completing a chapter's main quest or killing a particular boss. They can be viewed by selecting the relevant achievement from the reward tab of the hero menu.
